The jail's own history helps explain why those numbers differ from the original building design. CVRJ opened in 1990 with a design capacity of 96 beds and original staff of 50. A 50-bed dormitory and two classrooms were added in 1995. Another expansion in 1999 added 101 beds, an infirmary, indoor recreation space, more visitation space, laundry, a larger vehicle sally port, and other support areas.
